What does a China apparel sourcing agent do?

A China apparel sourcing agent represents the buyer across garment factory selection, fabric and trim sourcing, cost comparison, tech pack preparation, clothing sample development, production follow-up and quality inspection.

The work is not simply finding a clothing manufacturer. A useful sourcing partner connects design intent to measurable specifications, identifies the factories and textile mills that fit the product, records every approved change, and keeps bulk production aligned with the sample the buyer actually approved.

Full apparel category coverage

Specialist suppliers for different garment constructions.

A sweater factory, lingerie manufacturer, sportswear supplier and woven-garment factory use different machinery, materials, fit knowledge and quality controls. We match the supplier to the construction rather than sending every project to one general factory.

01 / KNITWEAR

Sweaters & knitted apparel

Pullovers, cardigans, cable knits, embellished sweaters, fine-gauge knitwear and seasonal capsules. Yarn composition, gauge, stitch structure, linking, wash, pilling and measurement stability are reviewed with the supplier.

02 / INTIMATES

Underwear & lingerie

Bras, briefs, seamless underwear, camisoles, slips, sleepwear and loungewear. We coordinate stretch fabrics, lace, elastic, cup and wire components, skin-contact trims, fit samples and target-market testing requirements.

03 / PERFORMANCE

Sportswear & activewear

Leggings, sports bras, training tops, tracksuits, yoga clothing and athleisure. Development can address stretch recovery, moisture management, opacity, seam performance, abrasion, printing and functional trims.

04 / WOVENS

Dresses & woven garments

Dresses, shirts, blouses, skirts, trousers and fashion separates in satin, cotton, viscose, linen blends and synthetic fabrics, with control of drape, shrinkage, print, construction and finishing.

05 / OUTERWEAR

Jackets & seasonal outerwear

Light jackets, padded styles, faux-fur garments, fashion coats and layered pieces. We align shell, lining, insulation, closures, hardware, bulk and garment weight with the approved sample.

06 / TEXTILES

Fabrics, yarns & trims

Knitted and woven fabrics, yarns, lace, elastic, interlining, labels, hangtags, zippers, buttons and packaging. Components are consolidated into a bill of materials and approval record.

Product development

From reference image to a controlled garment specification.

Brands often start with a sketch, a reference sample, a mood board or a target retail price. We help convert that commercial idea into inputs that a clothing factory can quote and sample consistently.

  • Clarify silhouette, construction, fabric, trim, wash and performance expectations.
  • Separate aesthetic preferences from measurable acceptance criteria.
  • Compare quotations on the same material, workmanship, packaging and Incoterm basis.
  • Track comments and corrections across prototype, fit, size-set and pre-production samples.
  • Freeze the approved sample, tech pack and bill of materials before bulk cutting.
A defensible fabric story

Develop the material advantage competitors cannot copy overnight.

A distinctive fabric can become part of a brand's market moat: a recognizable hand-feel, weight, stretch, texture, finish, color system or performance characteristic that customers associate with the product.

Supplier intelligence

Our buyers keep learning because the textile market keeps moving.

Every year, our purchasing team visits different textile and apparel trade fairs to refresh its understanding of yarns, fabrics, finishes, machinery, functional materials and supplier capabilities. The purpose is not to collect catalogues. It is to keep our fabric knowledge base and supplier database current enough to challenge an old solution when a better one becomes available.

The commercial views shown here were developed from real garments and textile references sourced by our team, presenting model fit, product silhouette and material details from different angles.

  • Record emerging materials, constructions, finishes and commercially viable innovations.
  • Reassess mills and garment factories as capacity, equipment and management change.
  • Connect new material possibilities to live buyer briefs and target price levels.
  • Maintain alternative suppliers so one mill or factory does not become an invisible single point of failure.

Apparel tech pack service

Give the factory one source of truth.

An apparel tech pack turns a design into a production document. ZWC can support buyers who need to create, complete or normalize a garment tech pack before requesting comparable quotations and samples.

Buyer questions

China apparel sourcing FAQ

What clothing products can ZWC source in China?

We support knitwear and sweaters, lingerie and underwear, sportswear and activewear, dresses and woven garments, outerwear, fashion basics, fabrics, yarns, trims, labels and packaging. The right supplier depends on garment construction, material, quantity, target market and compliance requirements.

Can you find a private-label clothing manufacturer?

Yes. We shortlist garment factories against the buyer's product, order size, quality level, development needs and target market. Private-label support can include fabric and trim sourcing, labels, hangtags, packaging, samples, production follow-up and inspection.

Can ZWC help develop a custom or exclusive fabric?

We can coordinate fabric development with mills and specialist suppliers, including composition, yarn, weight, construction, stretch, hand-feel, color, print, finish and performance. Feasibility, development charges, minimum order quantities, exclusivity and repeat-production controls must be agreed project by project.

Do you provide clothing tech packs if we only have a sketch or reference sample?

We can help translate available design information into a production-oriented tech pack. Missing decisions are identified before factory quotation and sampling. The buyer reviews and approves design, fit, measurements, materials, artwork and final specifications.

What are typical apparel MOQs in China?

There is no single MOQ. It is driven by fabric and dye-lot minimums, yarn, color count, trim minimums, print setup, factory line economics and size assortment. We expose these drivers and examine practical options such as shared materials, fewer colors or phased development; lower MOQ is not guaranteed.

How do you manage apparel samples?

Depending on the project, the sample path may include prototype, fit sample, size set, salesman sample and pre-production sample. Each round should record measurements, material status, construction changes, workmanship comments and approval conditions.

Can you guarantee compliance for our market?

No sourcing agent should offer a blanket guarantee without a product-specific requirement list and appropriate testing. The buyer defines the destination market and required standards; ZWC helps communicate those requirements, coordinate supplier evidence and arrange agreed third-party testing or inspection where applicable.

How do we start an apparel sourcing project?

Send the product category, reference images or tech pack, target market, estimated quantity by style and color, size range, target cost, fabric expectations, packaging and required ship date. If information is missing, we identify which decisions affect supplier matching, price, MOQ and timing. For fee structures, read our China sourcing agent fees guide.

Start with the garment and customer

Send the collection brief. We will map the suppliers, materials and first sample decisions.

Include your product, target market, quantities, size range, target cost and timing. A sketch, reference sample or incomplete tech pack is enough to begin identifying the gaps.
